A Waterfall Couples Photoshoot in Guanacaste, Costa Rica
Jessica & Matt at Llanos de Cortés Waterfall
When you think about having your photographs taken in Guanacaste, the first thing that probably comes to mind is the beach. We understand why. Costa Rica has some incredibly beautiful beaches, and we love photographing couples along the coast.
But there is so much more to explore.
Jessica and Matt chose Llanos de Cortés Waterfall, near Bagaces, for a fun photography session after their wedding. They decided to wear their wedding clothes again and turn their session into a little adventure. We love the idea of choosing a location that makes the photography experience part of the memory itself.
A Different Side of Guanacaste
Llanos de Cortés is a beautiful waterfall surrounded by tropical vegetation, about an hour's drive from Liberia, depending on your starting point and road conditions. Unlike the beaches of Peninsula Papagayo, Playa Conchal, or Tamarindo, the landscape here feels completely different.
The broad waterfall, natural pool and surrounding greenery create a beautiful setting for couples who want something beyond the traditional beach photoshoot. For Jessica and Matt, the waterfall was the perfect setting for their after-wedding session.
But you certainly don't need to be newly married to enjoy photographs in a place like this.
A waterfall photoshoot can also be a wonderful idea for couples celebrating their honeymoon, an anniversary, or simply a special trip to Costa Rica.
When Is a Good Time for a Waterfall Photoshoot?
One of our favorite times to consider visiting Llanos de Cortés is during Guanacaste's dry season, before the rainy season begins. The weather is generally more predictable during these months, which can make planning an outdoor photography session easier.
That doesn't mean the waterfall will necessarily be at its fullest. Water flow changes with the seasons, and during rainy periods the falls can become much more powerful. The surrounding landscape also changes throughout the year, from the warmer, drier tones of Guanacaste's summer to the lush greenery that returns with the rains.
Because this is a natural waterfall, we always recommend checking current conditions, access and any photography restrictions before planning a session. Weather and water levels can affect where it's appropriate to photograph.
Your Photoshoot Can Be Part of the Adventure
One of the things we love about photographing couples in Costa Rica is that every session can feel a little different. Some couples imagine a quiet beach at sunset. Others love the idea of exploring a tropical location, getting a little wet or doing something they wouldn't normally do at home.
Jessica and Matt chose a waterfall adventure, and their session is a wonderful example of how personal a couples photoshoot can be.
Our goal is always to create photographs that feel natural to the people in them, while making the most of the beautiful places we're lucky enough to photograph.
Whether you're visiting Guanacaste for your honeymoon, celebrating an anniversary or simply want to remember a special vacation together, there are so many possibilities beyond the beach.
