There are some places we never get tired of shooting, and Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo is definitely one of them. We have photographed many families throughout Guanacaste, Costa Rica, and Playa Virador continues to be one of our favorite beaches for a sunset family session. It has everything we love about Papagayo: the green tropical landscape, rocky coastline, calm ocean, and beautiful golden light for that golden glow we are always looking for.
As the afternoon goes by, the light at Playa Virador changes completely. We start with the greens and blues of the Costa Rican landscape and then slowly move into the warmer light as the sun gets closer to the horizon. When Papagayo gives us one of those beautiful Pacific sunsets, we always take advantage of every minute we get.
For family sessions, we also love how much freedom the beach gives us. We can photograph the whole family together, but also have an intimate session with Mom and Dad, a fun and playful session with siblings on the rocks on the right end of the beach, each parent with the kids, and all the little moments that happen in between. There is time to walk, play in the waves, run around, and simply enjoy being together.

Planning a Family Session During Your Stay
One of the questions families often have is how to fit a photo session into their plans while staying at Four Seasons Costa Rica. We keep it simple. Since Playa Virador is right at the resort, there is no need to plan an additional drive or excursion, which is especially helpful when traveling with young children or a larger family.
Before the session, we'll help you choose the best time based on your travel dates and sunset. We'll also send recommendations on what to wear and answer any questions beforehand, so there isn't much to think about once you're here.
If you're traveling with grandparents or extended family, let us know. We can make sure there is time for the photographs that matter most to you, including the full family as well as smaller combinations.
Most families plan their session for one evening during their stay and then head straight back to enjoying their vacation. That's exactly how we like it.
