Getting the whole family together is already something worth celebrating. Getting everyone together in Costa Rica, on the beach, AND WITH THIS LIGHT? BINGO!
This afternoon at Playa Conchal was all about family, especially since there were a lot of them! We photographed everyone together, but also made sure to sneak away with each family on their own, photographing the grandmother and grandchildren, siblings, couples, cousins, and all those different combinations that are so easy to forget about when everyone is in one place.
And right in the middle of it all, a new little family member was already joining the fun! One of the moms was expecting, so, of course, we had to take advantage of that beautiful Playa Conchal light for a few maternity photos too. Some with her husband, some with the kids, and a few just for her.
The best part about photographing a big family like this is that there is always something happening. Kids running around, some laughter, hugs, kisses… and yes, we still get that one big family photo where everyone is looking at the camera!
Playa Conchal was especially beautiful that afternoon. The beach, the warm golden light, and the ocean made the perfect backdrop, but what we love most about these photos is how much they feel like them. Years from now, you want the beautiful portrait of everyone together. But you also want the photo of Dad playing with his son, the kids being silly, Grandma surrounded by her grandchildren, and the little moments you probably didn't even notice were happening.
A Family Session With a Little Bit of Everything
One of the things we love about photographing larger families is that one session can tell so many different stories. A family vacation can also be a reunion, an anniversary, a maternity session, or simply one of those rare times when grandparents, parents, children, and cousins are all together in the same place.
With a large group, we like to know beforehand who is coming and which photographs are especially important to you. That way, we can make time for the full family while also photographing each smaller family and the different generations. It keeps things organized without making the session feel like a checklist.
Playa Conchal works beautifully for this because there is room to move around and give everyone a little space. The kids don't have to stay in one spot, and while we're photographing one part of the family, there is usually something happening nearby that is just as worth capturing.
And if someone in the family is expecting, like we had during this session, we can easily make maternity photographs part of the photoshoot without turning it into a completely separate event. It becomes another part of the story you're already there to remember.
If you're coming to Playa Conchal, bring the whole family along. We'll take care of the photos. For you, sit back and just enjoy having them all in one place.
